Hi fellow writer – welcome to this week’s issue.

If you’re a new freelance writer, you have unlimited opportunities, particularly when it comes to writing for the Web. If I were starting out today, I’d focus strictly on the Web.

There are two primary reasons I’d do that:

1. All publications are moving to the Web – it’s simply cheaper, and as the technology improves and with fuel price increases, plus global warming fears, making paper products less profitable and ethical, the rush of publications to the Web will speed up; and

2. I like to get paid fast. Fast payment is essential for freelancers, because we’re always concerned about our cash flow. When you write for Web sites (or write Web sites in order to sell them, as we’re discussing in this issue), you get paid as soon as you complete the article, report, or Web site. In the print world, you can wait months for payment; this is great for magazines, but it’s a real pain for writers.

So this week our article is “Write and Flip – Create a Web Site and Sell It”, discusses creating Web sites in order to sell them immediately, or after they’ve started making an income.

Flipping Web sites is a new revenue stream for freelancers, and it’s effective. You can create a site by writing a few articles, offer it for sale, and get instant income.

Could YOU flip Web sites? Of course you could.

Let’s deal with a common fear which writers have. Writers worry that creating Web sites is somehow difficult.

* Article: Write and Flip – Freelance Web sites

Writing and “flipping” Web sites and blogs is a new income stream for Web writers. I’ll cover the process in this article. There’s not much to it; it’s no more involved than writing a series of articles on a specific topic.

People like buying ready-made sites and blogs because the start-up work is done for them. From the seller’s side, selling sites, blogs and Squidoo lenses (www.squidoo.com) lenses value-adds to articles – you’ll get less for a series of five articles than you will for those articles if they’ve been incorporated into a site.

You’ll need a site-building tool. There are many available for free. NVU is a good choice:

So let’s see how the flipping process works.

=> 1. Decide on a topic for your site

Start by deciding on a topic for the site. The topic can be anything you please, but for a quick sale, choose a topic for which people are searching at the search engines, and there are advertisers online.

Google Zeitgeist is an excellent starting-point for your research –

Once you’ve decided on a topic, buy a domain name (Internet address) for it. I use NameCheap –

=> 2. Write five articles

Write five articles to provide content for the site, and add them to the site. The articles should be 300 to 500 words long.

=> 3. Write a home page

Next, write a brief home page introducing the site and the topic.

=> 4. Write a privacy page

Nowadays, sites need privacy pages. You don’t have to write this yourself – there are many sites online which offer privacy page templates which you can adapt to your own needs.

=> 5. Sell your new site!

All done: now it’s time to offer your site for sale. The easiest way to do this is to offer your for-sale sites from your own Web site. You can advertise the sites in various ways.

However, if you want a quick sale, you can offer your sites at one of many forums and Web sites created specifically to sell Web sites – just do a Google search to find them.

If you can, avoid this route. A site which sells for $100 via a Buy It Now at one of the forums will sell for ten times that amount if you let the site age.

=> 6. Or, Let your site “age” to increase its value

“Aging” a site means what it sounds like – you let the site get a little older. Older sites are always more valuable online than new sites, because they’ve been indexed by the search engines, and are getting traffic.

That traffic – site visitors – can be used to build up a revenue stream from the site. Once it’s earning, even a very small amount, that site becomes much more valuable.

So there’s the site building and flipping process in a nutshell. Have fun flipping Web sites.

Let’s say that you’ve created ebook of 50 to 80 pages. (This is a good length for an ebook. Reading on a computer screen is uncomfortable. Say what you’ve got to say in a minimum of words and your readers will thank you.)
