[Editorial] Article Fortunes
In this week’s article, “Article Fortunes - Writing And Selling PLR Content”, we’ll discuss Private Label Rights articles. But first, you need to understand what PLR is - especially the “rights” part.
Private Label Rights - What You’re Selling When You Sell “Rights”
This discussion on rights may seem dry - but it’s vital to your survival as a writer that you understand how rights work, and what you’re selling when you sell specific rights. Please read the information, and take it to heart. If you’re not up to speed on copyright, here’s Wikipedia on the topic to give you an overview.
As a freelance writer, you’re licensing RIGHTS to your writing; that is, you’re selling licenses to publish, rather than selling the writing itself.
Unless you sign an “All Rights” contract, or are working for someone under a “Work Done For Hire” agreement, all rights in your writing stay with you. You own the copyright, as soon as the “work” (piece of writing) is set down in its final form. You can’t lose those rights, unless you give them away, or sell them.
Tip: a working knowledge of copyright and rights is vital for a freelance writer; if you don’t know what rights you have, you will be cheated regularly - and I can’t state it more plainly than that. If you’re selling your writing, please read your contracts. I know that many writers don’t. Read, and ask questions, and change or delete clauses which aren’t in your best interest.
Now let’s discuss Private Label Rights (PLR). This system of licensing rights is new. It basically means that when you create a piece of writing, you sell a certain number of licenses - 50, 100, 500 - however many you wish, with most rights.
When you sell PLR rights, you give the purchaser a license to use the writing in any way he wishes. He can put his name to it, edit to completely, sell it, give it away, put it on a Web site - whatever. The only right which is normally retained by the writer is the right to resell the material as PLR - every other right is sold to the buyer of the PLR content.
Writing And Selling PLR Material Can Make Your Fortune
Many writers are selling PLR material - articles, reports, ebooks, etc because it’s profitable. Let’s do the math. Say you sell PLR rights to ten 400-word articles (4000 words in total) for $20 to 500 purchasers: you’ve just made $10,000.
If you can write 4000 words a day, you can see where the $10,000 you can make A DAY will soon turn into serious $$$$. I know several writers who are making in the high six figures, just from PLR… and there’s no reason you can’t do it too, once you can get your head around the concept of what PLR is, and how it works.
Quality PLR articles are highly sought-after online; unfortunately much of what’s currently available is dreck. If you can write articles which make sense and are worth reading, you can sell PLR articles all day long: Web site owners need them and happily pay for them.
Have fun playing with PLR: it’s a brand new Web writing industry.
Affectionately,
Angela

Content is imperative online, and since a writer creates content, you can consider yourself a king, or queen, of the online world. Content is the Web: without words and other content, the Web wouldn’t exist. Because content is so important, many writers are making unbelievable incomes as the sellers of Private Label Rights (PLR) content, especially articles.
“Content” is essentially online media - words, images, videos, audio files. Words are the most important type of content, and the simplest form of words as content is articles. Whether you’re a new writer, or an established pro, writing articles is simple.
To make the most money writing and selling PLR article content, you need to sell the content yourself. If you’re writing PLR content for someone who hires you to do it, they’re making the money, you’re not. If you’re just starting out as a writer, write for someone else for a month or two, until you can see how it works, then write your own PLR content and sell it yourself.
Get Started Writing And Selling PLR Articles
Most PLR articles are sold in packs of ten, 20, or 25 articles. The articles are around 400 words long, and are targeted to keywords. If you’re not familiar with keywords and why they’re important to Web site owners, do a Google search on the topic.
Here’s an example: “diet” is a keyword, as is “weight loss”. If you write 20 articles which use these keywords, you’ll sell the articles very quickly. We could get into a discussion here on keywords, but it’s easy enough for you to investigate the topic online.
Choose a keyword, make sure that there are buyers for the topic, and then write ten articles. Most PLR content is sold in both MS Word and text format.
Next, you need a site on which to sell your PLR articles.
Create A Web Site: It’s The Basis Of Your PLR Empire
Your “site” can be simple, just a page that you create in Google Page Creator or similar. Write a description of the articles you have for sale, and list the article titles, and the word count for each article.
You’ll need a PayPal account to accept money from people for the PLR content; if you don’t already have a PayPal account, open one. The PayPal Help files will tell you how to create a “button”; it’s just code you paste onto your Web page. When someone clicks the button, they’re taken to PayPal to make their payment, and you’re sent notification.
When you’re starting out, you can send your PLR articles to buyers as an email attachment as soon as you receive notification of the payment. Once you have lots of PLR content for sale, you can automate the processes so that as soon as buyers make a payment, they’re sent a download link.
Promoting Your PLR Articles - Use Craigslist
Now you’re all set: you just need buyers. Your easiest option to advertise your PLR content for free is Craigslist. Just run an ad, and you’ll find that your articles sell.
Here’s the Craigslist Profits Guide to help you to get the most from Craigslist.
Now You Know How It’s Done - Do It Again
You’ll got one PLR article pack for sale; just repeat the process. Write another set of articles, and another one after that. As you become known as a PLR content writer, you’ll find that many of your buyers will ask you to write on other topics. Some will eagerly buy every pack you produce. Most people who use PLR content have dozens of sites; some have hundreds, so they’re always eager for good content.
Writing PLR material is a new writing industry online. It’s fun, easy and highly profitable, so get started building your PLR empire today.
