Just as Web writers have never had it so good, neither have novelists. It seems as if each week brings an announcement of a new contest for authors. Publishers are hungry, and they’re ready to pay for your words.

New “Write A Book” Subscription site - join me in writing YOUR book

I’m working hard on a new site for authors. If you’re writing a book, or have always wanted to write a book, this site is for you. Look for the site’s opening notification in a couple of weeks.

Why a subscription site for authors?

The inspiration for this “Write A Book” site came from two realizations. The first realization was that the market for both non-fiction books and novels is very hungry - if you can write a book, as long as you know how to research the marketplace to see what readers (and hence publishers) want, you can get published. The second realization was that I could document the entire book proposal/ sale process on the site - from idea to print.

By documenting the process, it means that aspiring authors can follow along and model my process. If you’re new to publishing, you need a step by step process - do this, then do this… So that you can get a book proposal into the marketplace, can find an agent, can sell your proposal, and can build a platform as an author.

Writing a book for publication can be overwhelming for new authors. I hope the new site gives you courage, inspiration, and guidance as you write your book and sell it.

Blogging is the new happy hunting ground for savvy writers, who are writing every day, writing what they like, and getting paid to do it.

How well paid, you ask? Very well paid indeed. In the blog post “Top 5 Blogging Success Stories: Exclusive Quotes From John Chow, Yaro Starak And More” popular blogger John Chow says he made $17,828.61 on his blog in August 2007. [Update: he made $20,500 in September 2007.] His blog is quite new, so how did his blog get to the stage where he’s making almost $18,000 a month? He says:

Blogging is ultra-simple. Here’s the money-making blogging process in a nutshell:

If you’re wondering whether it’s really that simple, yes, it really is. One tip - the monetisation aspect is important. Essentially, all it means is that you ensure that you pick a blog topic in which there are advertisers. Good, easily monetizable topics include - health, money, celebrities, gadgets, cooking, and parenting.
