Get Started Blogging - Just Start, It’s Easy

Each week, I receive several queries about blogging, and they all ask the same basic question: “Can I blog about ________?”

My answer’s always the same too: you can blog about anything you like. If you want to make money blogging, however, choose a topic which has advertisers. Just go to Google, and enter your topic into the search query box. On the search results page, check to see whether there are any “sponsored links” on the right hand side. If there are, go ahead and blog on the topic - people are spending money in that area.

If you’re a beginning writer, you can serve your writing apprenticeship on the Web, and get paid for doing it. There’s a huge demand for content on the Web, because all sites need content to gain visibility. If you’re unfamiliar with the term “content” it means online media, which includes text.

I love writing for the Web. Not only is it instant gratification - I can see my words online almost as fast as I can type - but the amount of money you can make is… well, I hate to sound clichéd, but it’s amazing. Even for NEW writers.

By new writers, I mean completely new to the writing for money business. They’ve never been paid for writing. Some don’t even know that people get paid to write. Stop laughing; it’s true.

This newbie instant-writer thing shocks me, because when I started writing 30 years ago, writers expected to pay their dues. “Paying your dues” meant writing in dismal anonymity for years, collecting rejection slips. Some writers bragged about the 1268 rejection slips they had in a shoebox. Collecting rejection slips while you improved your writing enough to sell consistently was expected. Depressing, but expected.

Not today. If you’re a new writer today, you can write and get paid today, thanks to the Web.

Unfortunately, this means that there’s a lot of cr*p writing online, and many old-school writers object to this. The mainstream media loves to make fun of bloggers, for this reason. It’s snobbery. People calling themselves writers who haven’t been trained to write? Shock, horror and contempt. I’m not old-school: I know what it’s like to struggle as a writer, so I’m thrilled at the opportunities new writers have today.

You’re A New Writer - Welcome to Web Writing, Where You Earn While You Learn

If you’re a new writer, you can get started writing a wide variety of content: articles, news, reviews, blogs, ezines, autoresponders, ebooks, and much more.

Because so much content is needed online, expectations are very low. Most of the people with whom you work have never worked with a writer before, and some sites are completely automated: you submit your articles or whatever, and are paid. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

What Payments Can You Expect?

Payments for new writers vary. At the lower end of the market, expect to be paid anywhere from $10 to $50 for each 400 to 800 word article. Some sites pay much more of course, with prices comparable to print at $1 and $2 per word. However, you wouldn’t approach these top-level markets without writing credits, and that after all is the point of writing for these instant-pay markets - to build up credits so that eventually you’re being paid top-dollar for your words.

The big benefit of these pay-for-content markets is not only the payment however, nice as it is. By writing for these markets, you discover how the Web works. You get experience, and you can parlay that experience in many ways.

So what are you waiting for? Get started serving your writing apprenticeship online today - a new world of writing will open for you.

** Struggling To Find Writing Gigs? **

Freelance writers just don’t realize how much money there is to be made by writing for the Web: many writers use the Web as a research tool, they don’t see the Web as a mass of millions of markets. They don’t realize that Web sites are STARVED for good writers.

Want to get paid REAL money to write? How does $120 an hour sound to you? Discover “Writing For The Web”.
