[Editorial] Write Fast - Words Are money
Hi - I hope you’re having a great writing week.
This week’s issue is all about writing fast. As a freelance writer, you need the ability to write fast on demand. Editors give you deadlines, and expect you to fulfil your contracts. You also see lots of opportunities, and it’s vital to grab those opportunities when you spot them, otherwise they’re gone.
Also, since in today’s connected world, where everyone writes, you need to write to promote yourself too - without a Web site, and frequently updated blog, you can’t build a platform (name) for yourself. Building your name - so that editors and clients come to you - is vital.
You need the ability to write FAST. Get an idea, get it written, and on to the next thing.
Writing Fast Comes With Practice - Writing Is A Muscle
If you’ve ever started a new exercise program, you know that on the first few days, you struggle. You’re out of breath, you wonder why you ever paid attention to such a crazy idea, every muscle streams in protest.
Writing for money is similar. When you’re a new writer, you wonder what the heck you’re doing. You’re convinced you’re not doing “it” right. You enjoy writing - but when you’re writing to a deadline, and an editor is waiting for your words, you struggle. You’re tempted to give up. However, as with any exercise program, if you persist, it all gets easier. Writing just becomes something you do.
And, with time, you develop your own techniques for writing fast. In this week’s article, I’ll share my techniques with you.
** End of “Blogging For Dollars” Introductory Offer **
I’ve had several desperate pleas to extend the intro offer of Blogging For Dollars for another week, and I’m happy to do so, however the price must go up on May 15 - so if you’ve held off on purchase, or didn’t receive my announcement last week, May 15 is the final day.
Affectionately,
Angela
P.S. The response to “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” has been fantastic. Thank you for all the kind words. I’m pleased that you like it. Write on!

* Article: Write Fast: From Ideas To money
(c) 2007 Angela Booth. All Rights Reserved.
The ability to write fast is the primary secret of all successful freelance writers - it’s the one thing which separates them from other, less successful writers.
You can write fast. Anyone can. If you can talk, you can write, and with a little practice, you can write at least as fast as you can talk. Once you’ve got a first draft, you can rework and revise, and you’re done.
This article will give you the tools you need to write fast. Use them.
1. Writing Fast Starts In Your Mind - Build Motivation
Your mind is magic. Think of it as Aladdin’s lamp. All you need to do to activate your mind’s wish-fulfilling genii is tell it what you want. “I choose to be a fast writer.” Say it aloud. Imagine what your life as a freelance writer would be like if you were a FAST freelance writer. What if you could write an article in an hour? A book in a month?
Build your motivation by imagining how your life will change when you have the ability to write fast. Here’s a secret: editors love fast writers. When you become known as someone who just does the work, you’ll get writing gigs just because you’re fast.
2. Your Method: Build Your Writing With Chunks
Every piece of writing you do is made up of words, sentences, and paragraphs. Chunks. If you get intimidated by writing, just remember that you don’t have to write an article or a book today. You just have to write a word, and another one. Words form into sentences… and paragraphs. That’s all.
So chunk your writing. The beauty of it is, your subconscious mind can do most of the work. For example, if I’m working on an article for a magazine, the first thing I do is write whatever comes to mind about the topic. I’ve now got a page or two of material. I print it out, and leave it on the corner of my desk.
Next I write a brief outline. Usually it’s no more than four or five sentences. Then I write a draft - very rough, combining research that I did when the ideas draft was sitting on the corner of my desk, with insights and fresh ideas.
Then I write the another draft. Then it’s done.
If you’re in the habit of writing a first draft straight through, stop it. It rarely works. Yes, you may strike it lucky occasionally, but you’re not leaving time for your creative processes (preparation, incubation, illumination etc) to work. If you’re not up to speed on creativity models, check Wikipedia.
Let your subconscious mind do most of the work. It’s better at writing than your conscious mind.
3. Research As You Go - You Never Know When You’ll Need It
I read a lot. In fact, I became a writer because I love to read. So reading is a pleasure: it’s research. However, I know that if I allow myself to research before I write, I’ll write slowly. Research is never done. There’s always more to know. Therefore, I research as I write.
Pay attention to your subconscious mind. Notice what it’s doing. Over the years, I’ve learned to mine my obsessions. If I become very interested in something, then it’s best to allow myself to learn (research) as much as my subconscious wants - it comes in useful, always. I’ve been a tech journalist for around 15 years, just because I like technology, and playing around with technology is fun, and because while I’m playing, I’m researching.
So there you have it. All you need to know to write fast - please use these tools. Once you get accustomed to letting your creativity flow, you’ll be amazed at how much you accomplish.

** Freelance Blogging: Fun, Easy and VERY Profitable **
Want a new freelance writing career? Become a freelance blogger.
I’ve been blogging since 2001, and for the past 12 months I’ve been swamped with offers of blogging gigs, and so have other freelancers who are highly visible on the Web. Blogging has huge returns on investment for businesses, so they’re hiring bloggers to update their blogs each day - often several times a day.
My new ebook, “Blogging For Dollars: How to become a career blogger — in your PJs, if you want”, teaches you how to blog for money.

** New Writing Opportunity “Beat Your Paycheck! Web Writing SECRETS” **
“How Make More Money With Web Writing Than You Ever Will With A Paycheck… In A Month Or Less”
Even if you’re a new writer, you can make enough money from Web writing to leave your day job - fast.
As a writing teacher, I work with new writers every day. Many would love to leave their day job, but they don’t yet have the skills to write copy for corporate clients, or for national magazines. Writing in your home office seems like a dream. Many promising writers give up writing because their lives are too busy - with a full-time job and family, they’re too tired to write.
If this describes YOU, I’ve found a solution. I asked a new writer who’s making great money writing for the Web to share his secrets. He’s happy to do so. Read my new ebook.
