[Editorial] Creating Your Own Freelance Job Opportunities For 2008 And Beyond
Hi again! Hope you’re having a great writing week. This week’s issue is about job opportunities for freelance writers.
Job opportunities for freelance writers are everywhere you look, and in this week’s article (scroll down) I cover three of them. Choose one (or work with them all), and within a day or two - within hours, if you’ll pick up the phone - you’ll have enough writing gigs to keep you busy for months.
Now, let’s think about 2008, and creating your best year ever.
Start To Line Up Projects For 2008 Now By Planning Your Success
As a freelance writer, you’ve got complete freedom. You can write what YOU want to write, and you should always have a few “dream” gigs that you’re fishing for. Don’t settle for crummy jobs.
We’re almost half way through 2007, so it’s time to think about what you REALLY want to write in 2008, and 2009. Once you’ve decided, you can create your own freelance job opportunities.
How To Create Your Own Freelance Job Opportunities
Here’s the process, step by step:
1. Target. What do you want to write? You need to be specific here. Write down the magazine, the Web site, the exact publisher or literary agent you want to write for, or in the case of agents, work with. If you’re into Web publishing, write down a new site’s niche and the monetisation possibilities.
2. Establish a relationship. I always tell my writing students that sending out proposals and queries is about relationships, it’s not about making sales. The people with whom you want to work get to know you via the introductions and queries you send, over time. So start to build a relationship with your targets.
If you’re building a site OTOH, there’s no one to build a relationship with until your site is live… so research the niche. Find out who your competitors will be, and what advertisers are spending money in the niche. Contact some of the advertisers. Ask questions.
TIP: If you’re a Web publisher, or want to be, keep something in mind - SILENCE. Don’t talk about your plans. If you’ve found a niche with great money-making potential, shush! Some people live to snatch niches from others, and if they throw up a site before you do, you’ll be an also-ran.
Build your site now, fast. See my new site-building ebook package, “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza”.
Never, ever talk about your niches.
3. Keep building the relationship until you get the response you want. Since you’re starting out in mid-2007, you’ll get your responses before 2008.
Those three steps are all it takes. They’re highly effective. If you put them into practice, you’ll be more successful than 95 per cent of freelancers who never plan.
Good luck for 2008.
Happy writing.
Affectionately,

* Article: Three Fantastic Job Opportunities For Freelance Writers
(c) 2007 Angela Booth
In 2007 freelance writers are in high demand, and they’re highly paid too. If you’re a freelance writer, congratulations. Freelance writing is booming, primarily because of the Web. Everyone needs a Web site, and someone has to write all those words. In this article, we’ll look at just three of the many fantastic job opportunities for writers now.
We’ll look at copywriting (writing for business), writing resumes (great for beginning writers), and blogging, which is also great for beginning writers.
Want A High Income Writing Career? Become A Copywriter
Essentially, copywriters write for businesses. A copywriter can write anything from advertising and sales letters, to operating manuals. Every business needs a copywriter, and most of those businesses are in your own backyard. Getting great copywriting gigs as is simple as calling a few businesses, plus some advertising agencies, in your own city.
Many writers are hesitant to do this, but I promise you that if you will spend a couple of hours calling businesses in your home town, you’ll have enough writing job opportunities to keep you busy for months.
Find out more about copywriting at my copywriting blog.
Just Getting Started Freelance Writing? Write Resumes For Easy Cash
Writers tend to take their writing skills for granted. However the rest of the population finds writing scary, especially writing resumes. This is where you come in. If you can make someone’s resume and application letter sparkle, you’ve made a friend for life.
Many placement agencies are looking for writers, so get busy calling them. You can also search for placement agencies online, but the phone is faster and easier, because you’ll get jobs just because you took the trouble to call. Remember - start LOCAL, when you’re new at writing resumes.
If you’re just getting started as a freelance writer, writing resumes, bios and letters is an easy way to quick cash.
Everyone’s A Writer Now: The Blogging Route To Riches
Blogging is a writer’s dream come true. There are unlimited job opportunities for bloggers, because a blog is becoming a must-have for all businesses online. This is because blogs are great at generating traffic for a Web site.
You can get started as a blogger-for-hire by creating your own blog. Once you’ve done that, you can search for blogging job opportunities online, or you can approach businesses and offer your services. Find out more about blogging at my Blogging For Dollars blog.
So there you have it: three fantastic job opportunities for freelance writers - copywriting, resumes and blogging. Take advantage of the unlimited opportunities they offer you. As well as being lucrative, all three opportunities are lots of fun.
