It’s never been easier to make money writing, and without a doubt, the easiest way of all is by blogging. All you need is a computer, an Internet connection, and the willingness to write.

If you’re not acquainted with blogs, blogs have been described as “online journals” but this description, while accurate, doesn’t begin to cover what blogging is, because blogging is really INSTANT Web publishing. This is incredible power - something that Gutenberg couldn’t even dream of - so blogging is immensely popular. Technorati, a blog monitoring service, estimates that 175,000 new blogs are created every day.

Two Ways To Make Money Writing Blogs

There are two primary ways to make money writing blogs: blogging for others, and blogging for yourself. When you blog for others, you blog under contract, usually for a three to six month stint. When you blog for yourself, you create a blog in a topic area you enjoy, and which you think will attract advertisers, and as you write your blog, you monetize your blog - with advertising, affiliate product sales, or sponsorships.

Some professional bloggers make a lot of money - Steve Pavlina for example, reported on his blog that he makes $1000 a day, and other blogs, particularly blogs like Lifehacker, would make much more than that.

Blogging Is Perfect For You If You Love To Write

If you love to write, then blogging is perfect for you. A blog which is updated frequently gets more readers, so if you can write a new blog post a day - or write several a day, you’ll get readers (and make money) more quickly. But there are no rules when it comes to blogging. If you’re writing your own blog, then you can blog on a schedule which suits you.

You can even create a “blog” which is a portfolio Web site. Since a blog is after all, a Web site, when you create a blog as an online portfolio the site has all the attributes of both a standard site and a blog. Many writers create a “blog site” because a blog’s so easy to set up. Using Blogger, you can set up a blog within a minute or two.

Publicity And Blogging: Get Attention, Make Money

Blogging’s been described as having an “attention economy”. Readers equal money. Now, it’s not necessarily making money directly. For example, many bloggers have won lucrative (as in six figure) book deals as a direct result of their blogs. Others have been head-hunted for jobs. The visibility that blogging gives you as a writer is priceless - you can attract the attention of people you could contact in no other way.

If you want to leap-frog over all the other writers competing for book deals, article commissions, and copywriting gigs, blogging is perfect to help you to build a name as a writer.

Your blog will grow as it goes - organically. Just start a blog. Just as with other forms of writing, your skill grows as you write.
